Stephen Gallagher brought two more of the "Ole Hoss" model guitars to the shop last week and my hat is off to the entire crew at Gallagher, because they have not only captured the look & feel of the original, but these guitar have the purest tone of any guitar I ever remember playing. Compared with the original Ole Hoss, they have the same tone, but sound like "new" guitars, in that they aren't as "open" sounding. That will come with a few years of playing, as I can already tell a difference in the remaining one from the first three, which arrived only about three weeks ago.

Here's my brand new 71 Special. This guitar is, surprisingly, brighter than my Mahogany Doc Watson, though a rosewood guitar? It has a well balanced sound that felt kin to Ol Hoss which I played at the shop before looking at in stock guitars to choose something. This guitar has plenty of power brand new, though not quite as loud as my Doc Watson. But is also has a subtle something in the tonal balance that is particularly delicious and satisfying to play. Out of 10 or so I played I knew I wanted it as soon as I picked it up and started picking. I'm finding it to be a uniquely special Gallagher. But as this baby seasons out with some serious play time... well, I just may have to take it with me when I die.

The Jam idea came to me when several of you Ken Miller owners discussed a Ken Miller Jam next June. It made me think about how great a Gallagher version would be. I hope that can come together.

I will put a picture up when I get a chance. I still have four Gallaghers -
1 Doc Watson Cutaway
1 72 Special that JW made for Winfield the first time I won
1 SK Model 7 String (could be for sale)
1 72 Special Custom 7 String
This will be a great group with other instrument groups to follow.
