Steve Kaufman's Acoustic Kamps

Gold Award Acoustic Kamps

I'm feeling a little left out with all this talk about Week 1 !
I'm coming with my 11 year old son to Week 2, flying into Atlanta from UK on Saturday evening, then driving up to Maryville on Sunday morning.
I'm going to try "intermediate" flatpicking this year, which is probably a bit optimistic, but hey you've got to aim high......
Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces & meeting many new ones. Anyone else bringing any youngsters with them? It would be nice for my kid to meet a fellow beginner flatpicker.

I'll be there Week Two (along with a few hundred or so others).

I'm sure your son will have no problem finding someone his age to pick with.

Have a safe flight and see you in a few weeks!

Guy.... I'll be there Week 2. I'll be in the mandolin group. I've never been to Kamp before so I am looking forward to having a new experience and meeting some new friends. And playing as often and long as I possibly can, of course. No youngsters in my party of one my picker grew up and moved away...... he's still pickin though R/

Guy,

I'll be there during Week 2, also in Intermediate guitar.

I know of a 12-year-old guitarist your son will enjoy meeting - his name is Grant Rigney - and he is a fairly advanced guitarist. However, he's also excellent on fiddle and mandolin. His older brother will also be coming, Andrew, who plays both guitar and mandolin. Both of them also sing and write music, too. They are part of a great family band - the Rigney Family Bluegrass Band. I've seen them perform a few times, so I hope they are able to perform for the Kamp, too. They live in the Eastern part of TN.

One of the nice things you'll notice at Kamp is that the younger students enjoy playing music together.

See you in a few weeks,

Conny Ottway

First time Kamper here from Louisiana, finally at 51yrs I made it happen ! LOL Mando class, with fiddle clinic.

Looking for suggestions for cool stops between Chatanooga and Knoxville for Sat daytime and evening, & Sunday morning.
Need accommodations for Sat night along that route (June20), prefer music infuenced B&B/hostel/whatever, rather than boring chain hotels.

Also looking for bluegrass or old tyme jams, music shops, small town music gatherings for Sat/Sun Don't get much chance to visit this area, looking for maximum exposure. ha!

Hi Guy,
I'm going week 2. This is my first year. I'm trying intermediate after talking with Steve but I'm apprehensive about it. I've decided to look at it as really pushing myself because I am going to learn. I might should be in beginners but I'm just going to duck my head and give it all I've got. I'm from Okla. and plan on arriving sometime Sunday morning. I'm also wondering if I'm the only Okie at week 2. Any more Okie's out there? Mike

I'll be there week 2 for the first time. Really looking forward to be there!
Jim Perry wrote on the week 1 thread:
"For those of you thats coming in for the first time, its really cold in the dorms, I mean really cold, had to go get a blanket last year, cold in all the class rooms too, it might be hot outside, but you can hang meat in those class rooms. Thought I would throw that in, they got one of best A/C systems I've ever seen."

Be prepared.

Mike, as optimistic beginners "going for it", lets hope we're in the same class!

Remember - after your first class, if you feel that the level is not right for you, you can always change (if there's room and you're REALLY nice to Donna!). And the classes are always what you make of them - the instructors always have something planned, but will veer off in the direction the students take it.

I'm signed up for Advanced Mandolin - eek - I'm just as apprehensive as you guys!

Welcome new kampers...you'll be back...I guarantee it!
